How to connect Google Search Console to Oron

Search Console is Google's own measuring station for your website. Once it's connected, Oron can read real numbers from Google: impressions, clicks and positions. Your report shows numbers, not promises.

1How to do it in Oron

Three clicks from your dashboard.

Step 1

Open your dashboard and click "Connect Search Console"

Log in at getoron.com. The button is on your dashboard.

Step 2 · the most important step

Pick the right Google account

This is where the most common mistake happens Google asks which account you want to use. Pick the account that has access to your website in Search Console. If you pick a different account, the list of websites on our side will be empty, and it will look like nothing worked.

Not sure which account has access, or did the list come up empty? Then part 2 below is for you. It takes just a few minutes to sort out.

Step 3

Pick your website from the list

Done. From now on Oron pulls rankings, impressions and clicks automatically, and your report shows real numbers from Google.

2Empty list? Here's how to get access

Your website is usually already in Search Console, set up by your agency or whoever built the site. You don't need to create anything new. You just need to be added as a user.

Step 1

Find out who owns the access

Usually one of these: the agency that built your website, whoever maintains it for you, or a former employee. Not sure? Ask whoever you pay for your website or domain.

Send them this message. Replace the email with the Google account you want to use with Oron:

Hi! Could you add me as a user in Google Search Console for our website?

Email: your-email@gmail.com
Permission: Full

You do it in Search Console under Settings, then "Users and permissions", then "Add user". Thanks!
Step 2

Here's what they do (2 minutes)

In Search Console: pick your website, open Settings at the bottom of the left menu, and click "Users and permissions".

Email address: your-email@gmail.com
Permission: Full

Step 3

You get an email from Google

That means your account has access. Go back to part 1 and connect with that account.

BAlternative: verify it yourself, without asking anyone

Can't reach whoever owns the access? Then you prove to Google that you own the domain, with a small text record in your DNS. Nobody else has to approve anything.

Step 1

Add your domain in Search Console

Go to search.google.com/search-console and log in with the Google account you want to use with Oron. Click "Add property" and choose Domain in the left box.

Step 2

Copy the text record Google gives you

Google shows a record that looks like this. Click "Copy".

Verify domain ownership via DNS record

Copy   Verify

Step 3

Paste the record at your domain provider

Log in where you bought your domain and find the DNS settings:

✓GoDaddy: My Products, your domain, DNS, "Add New Record". Type TXT, name @, paste the code into the value field.
✓Namecheap: Domain List, Manage, Advanced DNS, "Add New Record", type TXT, host @, paste the code.
✓Other providers: look for "DNS", "DNS records" or "Nameservers". The steps are the same.

Save, wait 5 to 30 minutes, then click Verify in the Search Console tab.

On WordPress and can't get into your DNS? Choose "URL prefix" in step 1 instead, and the "HTML tag" method. Paste the tag into your SEO plugin (Yoast: Settings, Site connections. Rank Math: General Settings, Webmaster Tools). Same result.

When Google says "Ownership verified", go back to part 1 and connect with this account.

?Common problems

The list of websites was empty when I connected
You logged in with a Google account that doesn't have access to the website. Click "Connect Search Console" again and pick the account from option A or B. If you have several Google accounts in your browser, double-check which one is selected in the account picker.
I don't know who owns the access today
Ask whoever built or maintains your website, or check who you pay for the domain. No answer? Skip straight to option B. Then you don't need anyone's permission.
The agency isn't replying
Option B gives you your own access without involving the agency. Both kinds of access can live side by side just fine.
Should I choose Domain or URL prefix?
Choose Domain if you can change your DNS. It covers your whole website, with and without www. URL prefix is the fallback if you can only get into WordPress.
How long does the DNS change take?
Usually 5 to 30 minutes. Getting an error when you click Verify? Wait half an hour and try again. The record doesn't go away.
